New Tourist Attraction . . . Franconia Notch UFO Event Recorded !

Alien pictured at Notch Express Irving station! In September 1961 the First "Close Encounter of the Third Kind" took place in Franconia Notch with Betty and Barney Hill as they traveled south bound on Route 3 at the exact sight of the Notch Express Irving Station, located adjacent to Sport Thoma.  The owners of this station have done considerable research on this and other unexplained UFO phenomena, and have displayed detailed information about these events throughout the interior of their store.  So if you enjoy the subject or are specifically interested and want to learn more about this unique event in Lincoln's history take some time to check out this most unusual but highly interesting "UFO Museum".

Notice . . . Gas Discount Discontinued !

Notch Express Irving sign The Notch Express Irving Station, located adjacent to Sport Thoma on Route 3 in North Lincoln, that graciously offered exclusive savings on the purchase of gasoline to members of the Flying Fifties has discontinued this discount as of the close of the ski season.   Members of the Flying Fifties who took advantage of these savings want to express their thanks and appreciation to the owners of this station !

Gas Prices Skyrocketing . . . Our Latest Survey !

Gas PumpThis latest gas survey, taken 10:00AM, Saturday, June 20, 2009, shows gas prices are still increasing at an alarming rate!  In fact, prices have been increasing so fast you should consider this survey next to useless at this time!   At the time of this latest survey Wayne's Citgo station in North Woodstock posted the lowest prices in the area !   Click here for actual pump prices in Lincoln-Woodstock area as of this latest survey.

Want To Also Save Money On Washing Your Car ?

Rumor has it that the new touchless car wash located next to the Notch Express Irving Station (that provides the $0.20 per gallon discount to the Flying Fifties) has a secret code that will automatically result in $2.00 off for a car wash.  Simply punch in the five digit code 13690 in the key pad before you pay and you'll get the car wash for $2.00 less!  (Don't worry, this is not illegal . . . we were asked to pass the word about this code around by an employee of the car wash.)

Some Energy Advice For The Winter ?
1. Here are some useful facts to keep in mind:
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of #2 fuel oil is 139,000 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of kerosene is 134,000 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of propane is 91,600 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a kilowatt-hour of electricity is 3,413 BTU.

2. To compare the cost of heat from a gallon of fuel oil verses a gallon of propane you need to multiply the cost of the propane by 139,000/91,600 or 1.52.

3. To compare the cost of heat from a gallon of fuel oil verses electricity you need to divide the BTU's contained in a gallon of fuel oil by the BTU's contained in a kilowatt hour of electricity then multiply by the cost of a kilowatt hour of electricity, e.g. 143,000 / 3,413 X $0.18755 or $7.86 !  (NHEC price used.) Would you still like to have an electric car?

4. Check out "heating degree day" data from NOAA to estimate how much fuel you should have burned year over year by clicking here.

5. Check out current oil prices of 12 different suppliers in Northern New England by clicking here.
