Loon's new Zip-Line across the Pemigewasset River has been completed and is open for business!  The photo above was taken looking northwest from the tower on the south bank of the River across the Pemi River to the tower on the north bank.  Note the person just below the center of the photo hanging below the Zip-Line speeding across the River.  The ride is very popular so if your incline to take it be prepared to wait in line.  We'll bet this new attraction will be one of the most popular attractions on the Mountain!   Photo taken July 5th, 2010.

 Thu, August 5th . . . Caesar: The Man from Venus !

New Hampshire's Only 5 star Library !Presented by Sebastian Lockwood.   Meet Caesar as he grows up in a Rome that is recovering from one civil war and headed for another. Meet the powerful women in his life who help him achieve his destiny: his mother Aurelia, his aunt Julia, his wives and his great love Servilia. This is the man who claims descent from the Goddess Venus herself. We watch his rise to power in Rome, his great adventures, his time in Gaul and finally, after he crosses the Rubicon, his war with Pompey that will leave him the most powerful man in the world. We see him as Venus joined with Cleopatra Isis. Here is your opportunity to ask the great man the questions of his time and how they relate to ours.  This program will take place at 7:00pm at the Upper Pemigewasset Historical Museum at 26 Church Street Lincoln NH 03251 and is free and open to the public.   For more information on this program, contact Carol Riley at 603-745-8159 or go to library@lincolnnh.org

Knickerbocker will treat you to excerpts from original recordings of the songs that "Your Hit Parade" showcased on its weekly Saturday night show, from one-hit wonders to classic numbers still familiar today.  This program will take place at 7:00pm at the Upper Pemigewasset Historical Museum at 26 Church Street Lincoln NH 03251 and is free and open to the public.   For more information on this program, contact Carol Riley at 603-745-8159 or go to library@lincolnnh.org

Some Energy Advice For The Winter ?

1. Here are some useful facts to keep in mind:
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of #2 fuel oil is 139,000 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of kerosene is 134,000 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a gallon of propane is 91,600 BTU.
The amount of heat contained in a kilowatt-hour of electricity is 3,413 BTU.

2. To compare the cost of heat from a gallon of fuel oil verses a gallon of propane you need to multiply the cost of the propane by 139,000/91,600 or 1.52.

3. To compare the cost of heat from a gallon of fuel oil verses electricity you need to divide the BTU's contained in a gallon of fuel oil by the BTU's contained in a kilowatt hour of electricity then multiply by the cost of a kilowatt hour of electricity, e.g. 143,000 / 3,413 X $0.18755 or $7.86 !  (NHEC price used.) Would you still like to have an electric car?

4. Check out "heating degree day" data from NOAA to estimate how much fuel you should have burned year over year by clicking here.

5. Check out current oil prices of 12 different suppliers in Northern New England by clicking here.
